W. James Jonas III is a Partner in the firm’s Government Section whose practice includes Federal, Texas, and Multi-State Government Affairs projects.

Ranked one of Texas’ top lobbyists, Mr. Jonas has extensive experience in all aspects of local, state and federal legislative matters. With a practice he established in 1987, he counsels corporate clients, landowners, government entities, political candidates and campaigns on a wide array of issues, including economic development, policy advocacy and multi-state project implementation. He brings significant breadth of knowledge spanning such industries as information technology, entertainment (including sports law), education, health care, criminal justice, financial services, base closures, economic development, transportation, gaming, election law, privatization, telecommunications and environmental law.

Since the 1980s, Mr. Jonas has been consistently sought as a counselor and advocate on virtually every major procurement, outsourcing, or policy initiative in the state of Texas. Representative projects include student materials selection and funding, pari-mutuel facility licensing and selection, property rights (to include water law), private corrections operations and site selection, state facility site selection, child support services, lottery vendor contracting, and major regulatory redesign in the areas of education, telecommunication, and government organization.

On federal projects, his focus includes health related projects, information systems, technology, and environmental issues. Clients have consistently sought Mr. Jonas to assist where Executive Branch interface or coordination/advocacy before members of United States Senate and Congress is a central strategic facet.

Mr. Jonas is known throughout the community as an active advocate for autistic and developmentally delayed children.
