Colleagues and Friends of Texas Health Freedom,
We have just confirmed through the House Public Health Committee office, the House Public Health Chair’s office, and the office of a (friendly) member of the House Public Health Committee that SB 538 has been pulled from the agenda for tomorrow’s hearing. If you were planning on attending the hearing, thank you, but YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND. There will be no hearing on SB 538 this week.
We asked each of the three offices why the bill was pulled. The former two offices gave no reason, but the latter surmised that a combination of massive grass roots opposition and opposition from within the committee were the reasons. In other words, YOU made a difference. Congratulations!
While there is reason to celebrate, we’re not out of the woods yet. Even if there is ultimately no hearing on SB 538, a House member can file an amendment to another bill to add SB 538’s language. We have to ensure that doesn’t happen.
HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP
Call your Texas State Representative (contact information available at “Who Represents Me?” in the upper left corner of this home page). Tell the staff member who answers the phone something like this: “I am a constituent of Rep. (your state rep’s last name). I’m aware that the House Public Health Committee hearing for SB 538, the infectious disease control bill, has been cancelled. I want Rep. (your state rep’s last name) to keep a close watch the remainder of this session to ensure that SB 538 language is not amended to another bill.” That’s all you need to say!
Thanks for your support of Texas Health Freedom,
Your Coalition Executive Committee
